By studying modern organisms, scientists can make comparisons with fossilized remains to infer behavior, habitat preferences, and ecological roles of ancient organisms. Understanding the anatomy, physiology, and behavior of living organisms also provides important context for interpreting the fossil record and reconstructing past environments. Additionally, knowledge of modern organisms can help researchers identify potential analogs for extinct species, aiding in the interpretation of fossil evidence. **
